Incorporate Technology & Human Connection in Your Global Mobility Program

Last updated:

“At the touch of a button”.

It’s a phrase we commonly use to illustrate ease and speed. And right now, that phrase is more relevant than ever. It is no secret that technology has become an every day integration of our lives. In the realm of global mobility, it has become a staple for ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of global mobility programs.

However, it is essential to remember that a global mobility program has the potential to affect the livelihood of the assignee. A re-assignment can be an extremely stressful time for an employee; they are going through changes in their routine, environment, and work expectations. And let’s face it, not every assignee will want the comfort of a monitor or online portal to get them through those changes. This is where the importance of the human touch comes in.

Connectivity Matters

Access to online resources is a necessity. But the connectivity between the employee and mobility managers is just as important. A seamless relocation is one which identifies all the necessary points of connectivity–whether it be online or in person. There are three essential points of connectivity with the assignee:

  1. The online resources needed for the relocation – Your assignee should have consistent access to the resources made available to them online. Whether it is through a phone conversation with the consultant or an online portal, it is essential that they are able to get quick answers and solutions to their concerns and questions.
  2. The HR/Global Mobility Manager – This is where the importance of human connection comes in. As a global mobility manager, you become a point of contact for the assignee as well as a point for reassurance, motivation, and comfort. It is important that throughout the relocation process there is a sense of human connectivity to ease the assignee’s feelings and cultivate a positive outlook.
  3. The purpose of the relocation – Your assignee should be able to resonate with the purpose and aims of the re-assignment. If your employee is able to embrace the change, there is a more likely chance that the goals of the re-assignment will be achieved. Creating an achievable, clear, and concise purpose of the relocation is key in establishing that employee connectivity.
The importance of connecting technology and human connection goes beyond a telephone call or live chat. It’s important that a relationship is established, that the global mobility manager is understanding of the feelings that come with re-assignments, and that they motivate the assignee to achieve goals.
